Sidewalk Improvements Program

The Sidewalk Maintenance Program is a sidewalk improvement initiative to provide safe pedestrian routes in all city neighborhoods. In the City of Delaware, like most communities across the country, property owners are responsible for the cost of sidewalks repairs. State law allows for this practice because property owners receive the most benefit from the walks due to their availability. Further, well maintained sidewalks enhance property value.

Project Basics: Walks marked with a blue dot will be replaced by the City; Walks marked with a white dot must be replaced by the property owner.

Silver Maple Sidewalk and Trees

Work continues on the Silver Male Drive sidewalk project where tree roots caused damage to sidewalk panels. This work is being coordinated between the City of Delaware Public Works Department and the Parks Department:

February – March: Stumps ground by Parks Department contractor
April – May: Sidewalk removed and replaced by Public Works Department contractor
Fall 2024: Street trees re-planted by Parks Department
