The City of Delaware’s second annual community event to celebrate Black History Month is Feb. 24 from 3-5 pm at SourcePoint, 800 Cheshire Road, Delaware.

This year’s theme is “African Americans and the Arts.” Guests will hear from keynote speaker Dr. Jason Rawls, an educator with over two decades of teaching experience and a leader of the Hip-Hop education movement. Dr. Rawls is an Assistant Professor of Hip Hop at The Ohio State University and is leading the team creating the first Hip Hop Studies program in a School of Music at a research university in the United States. An author and music producer, Dr. Rawls has worked with artists like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Domo Genesis (Odd Future), Capital Steez (Pro Era), Beastie Boys, Del tha Funky Homosapien, Aloe Blacc and more.

Also at the celebration, acclaimed visual artist Lance Johnson will incorporate an interactive artistic component into the program with a live painting. Johnson is a Columbus-based mixed media artist. Originally from the Bronx, Johnson uses his experience of the vibrant urban landscape in his works to connect people from all walks of life.
