Judge Marianne Hemmeter was appointed to the Delaware Municipal Court in February 2015 by Governor John Kasich.

Before her appointment to the bench, she served as a special prosecutor and the Deputy Director of the Economic Crime Unit for Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine. While at the Ohio Attorney General’s Office she prosecuted criminal cases in twenty-three different counties throughout Ohio, including the much-covered Steubenville rape trial. Judge Hemmeter also served on the Ohio Attorney General’s Statewide Sexual Assault Response Team and was recognized as a Domestic Violence Subject Matter Expert for the Ohio Peace Officer’s Training Commission.

From 1999 through 2011, Judge Hemmeter served as an assistant prosecutor for the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office. At that office, Judge Hemmeter handled every kind of felony case, including the county’s only death penalty case. She prosecuted over sixty criminal trials with a ninety-percent conviction rate. Before that she was a prosecutor for the Delaware City Prosecutor’s Office.

Judge Hemmeter has trained law enforcement officers and judges nationwide in the areas of domestic violence, strangulation, and sexual assault cases. She has received awards for her work, including a Special Achievement Award in 2013 from the Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Assault. Judge Hemmeter served on the Ohio Supreme Court’s Advisory Committee on Domestic Violence from 2008 through 2011. She has appeared on 20/20, American Justice, and E! Investigates.

Judge Hemmeter holds a bachelor’s degree from Trinity College and a law degree from the Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. She is married and has two children.
