Yes, solar energy works in Delaware! The City has permitted more than 70 solar PV projects with more and more projects being submitted each month.
Submissions
Applications for solar permits can be made on our public portal.
Submission Process
- Staff reviews application for completeness.
- Staff reviews proposed use and compliance with development standards and applicable overlays.
- Staff takes action to approve, approve with conditions, or deny the application.
- If the permit is approved, construction may begin.
Submission Checklist
- Site plan showing the general area of the solar PV installation. The site plan drawing need not be exactly to scale, but it should represent relative location of components at site
- A letter from a design professional affirming that existing roof framing is sufficient to handle the rooftop solar array system
- Specification sheets of PV panels, inverters, racking equipment, etc.
- Electrical diagrams and worksheets showing configuration
Inspections
To schedule an inspection please email planning@delawareohio.net. Typically, inspections are completed within one business day of being requested. A residential solar PV system requires only one inspection.
Contractor Requirements
Contractors are required to be registered with the City of Delaware.
