Delaware City Council has announced the process for appointing a resident to fill the vacant 2nd-Ward council seat. Candidates must be 18 years of age and live in the City’s 2nd Ward. Click here to confirm your residence in 2nd Ward. The appointed candidate can seek election to the seat in November 2023 and, if successful, would serve the remainder of the term expiring November 2027.

Preference will be given to candidates who obtain 25 signatures of residents of the 2nd Ward (one signature per household), and express an interest in running for the remainder of the unexpired term. Neither completing the signature form or running for election in November 2023 are requirements to apply.   

• The deadline to apply is 5 pm, January 27, 2023.
• Candidates with complete applications will be invited to a public meeting with City Council on February 6 at 6:30 pm and, if necessary, on February 7 at 6:30 pm, at City Hall for interviews.
