Attorney

The City Attorney for Delaware is appointed to the position by the City Manager. In 1995, Daniel Bennington was apppointed to serve as this chief law officer for the City. He is the legal advisor of and attorney and counsel for the City and for all its officers and departments in all matters relating to their official duties and powers. As such, he prosecutes or defends the City in all civil cases in which it is a party. And he is responsible for the preparation of all contracts, bonds, and other written instruments in which the city is concerned and approves the form and correctness thereof.

Daniel Bennington has practiced law in the City of Delaware since 1973. He completed his undergraduate work at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware and earned his law degree from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland. At the time of his appointment to City Attorney he was a partner in a law firm in Delaware.
